The number of political prisoners in Belarus has increased once again, now standing at 902 people. This figure has been growing every month since March, when the last mass release of political prisoners took place. However, the most terrifying aspect is that repressions have not only failed to disappear—they have changed form. While some advocates of the regime assure us that repressions are abating, they are, on the contrary, becoming more systemic and deep-seated. The screws are now being tightened not just for potentially disloyal citizens, but for the most ordinary, apolitical Belarusians. And this is being done across all fronts.
