This year, the celebration of Kupala transcended the borders of Belarus, with sparks from Kupala bonfires igniting in Poland, Germany, the Netherlands, Canada, the USA, and beyond. Almost every major thematic festival organized by the Belarusian diaspora featured Siarhei Douhushau. The musician, whose schedule is planned a year in advance, spoke with Belsat about why, despite emigration and various challenges, Belarusians are increasingly exploring their own traditions. He discussed the best locations around the world for celebrating Kupala and shared his motivation for publishing a special guide for the festivities.
