On August 5, 1918, during a session of the Council of the Belarusian People's Republic, the white-red-white flag was officially adopted as the state symbol of the Belarusian People's Republic. Little did the members of the Council and the flag's designer, architect Klaudzi Duzh-Dusheuski, realize what intense emotions and debates would arise around this flag in the future.
