The International Day of Friendship was established by the UN General Assembly about 15 years ago. It's wonderful that there is an official occasion to gather with friends and celebrate this special day. However, friends don't need an official reason to meet up. The UN created this day not just for our enjoyable gatherings, but also to promote the idea of friendship and its value in fostering peace and understanding among people.
