By the end of 2026, Belarus is expected to develop criteria for exempting the burial sites of Chernobyl decontamination waste from regulatory control and removing them from state supervision. The official justification for this decision remains undisclosed, but radiation chemist Siarhei Bessarab warns that removing oversight could pose a severe ecological threat.
