In Belarus, farmers account for only 3% of the country's agricultural production, and there are fewer than 4,000 farms. Most potatoes, vegetables, fruits, and berries are cultivated by ordinary Belarusians on their private plots, according to Belstat data. This situation is hindering the development of Belarusian agriculture and preventing it from reaching even the European average, as noted by experts. We aimed to understand the reasons for this and the factors limiting farmers' growth in the region.
