The number of people forced to flee their homes due to war, persecution, and violence has decreased for the first time in a decade. However, this decline does not indicate that the world has become safer. On the contrary, millions of people are returning to countries where conflicts continue, infrastructure is damaged, and significant risks remain. It is a key finding of the annual Global Trends 2025 report by the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR). According to the report, at the end of last year, there were 117.8 million forcibly displaced people worldwide, which is 5.4 million fewer than the previous year.
