In the summer of 2020, photographs of beaten individuals outside the Akrestsina detention center in Minsk captured global attention. Detainees emerged with severe bruises, fractures, and marks from batons all over their bodies; some were even taken away in ambulances directly from the detention center gates. Five years later, the International Committee to Investigate Torture in Belarus released a 63-page report titled "Ward No.38: A Torture Conveyor Belt in Belarus." This study aimed to compile testimonies from former detainees, medical data, and findings from human rights activists. It highlighted how a systemic pattern of violence and torture emerged in the country following the protests of 2020, according to the authors.
