Following talks with Alyaksandr Lukashenka, the United States lifted sanctions on Belarusian potash fertilizer producers in exchange for the continued release of political prisoners. Although the European Union extended its restrictions until at least February 2027, Lithuania is already discussing possible schemes under which Belarusian potash could formally become "American" and enter foreign markets through the port of Klaipėda. Washington has not officially demanded this, but Lithuanian politicians claim the topic of fertilizers regularly comes up in negotiations, LRT reports.
