Belarus is a rigid, closed autocracy. It is no secret, and this is how Belarus is described in virtually every ranking. But the "Democracy Report" from the Swedish Institute for Democracy Variations draws attention to the "third wave of autocratization" that is sweeping even the world's largest democracy. What can be done? Researchers have no solution, but they see three "keys" to democratization.
