March 19 marks 20 years since the post-election protests of 2006 — Ploshcha — which brought tens of thousands of participants to the center of Minsk. This happened after successful peaceful revolutions in neighboring countries, and it seemed that Belarusians could do the same. But the Belarusian protests were dispersed by Alyaksandr Lukashenka, who thereby extended his rule for at least another 20 years.
