A couple of years ago, I watched a show—something like a game of Mafia. All but two of the women in the circle had been to prison, and the point was to determine who had not been to prison based on their answers to the same questions. It wasn't easy for them to guess, but one woman gave herself away with a telltale statement—she said that she had learned to sew well in prison and now loved it. Those who had actually spent time in prison responded that it was simply impossible for her to speak so warmly about this work after having been involved in prison sewing production. And they were right.
