Following the adoption of the latest 19th sanctions package against Belarus, the online bank Revolut closed the accounts of users without EU residence permits. Wise also blocked the cards of such Belarusians until they confirmed their citizenship or residence permit in the EU, EEA, or Switzerland. Meanwhile, the Polish bank PKO required such documents from clients who opened accounts after October 2025. What are democratic forces doing to help Belarusians with this problem? And how are they working to expedite the issuance of residence permits, which are often delayed?
