It is Jerzy Żywolewski, convicted of alleged espionage.

The independent portal Nasha Niva wrote about the case. This man was the first Polish citizen officially recognized as a political prisoner in Belarus by The Human Rights Center Viasna. He was detained on the street in the spring of 2022.

Żywolewski was shown in propaganda materials produced by the regime. He was called an “agent” and a “smuggler,” and was said to have had the code name Poseidon and to have been working for the Polish services since the beginning of this century.

According to the independent Belarusian website Nasha Niva, Żywolewski comes from a village on the border with Belarus and spent half his life in Belarus because his wife was Belarusian. They lived in a house they built themselves on the banks of the Neman River, ran a shop in Hrodna, and often traveled to Poland to visit Jerzy Żywolewski's mother. He was also interested in Belarusian politics.

In 2023, he was sentenced to four years in prison. His sentence ended on August 16 this year.

In an interview with Belsat, the spokesman for the Polish Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Paweł Wroński, refused to disclose the names of the released Polish citizens.
