We are counting on Poland's decisive leadership during its presidency of the EU Council, as well as on increased military assistance, Ukraine's Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha wrote on X.

"In connection with Poland's assumption of the second presidency of the EU Council, we count on Polish leadership, firmness and determination," Sybiha wrote.

The head of Ukrainian diplomacy conveyed that in the next six months he expects to strengthen military aid to Ukraine and sanctions against Russia. Kyiv's goal, he stressed, is "a dynamic process of Ukraine's accession to the EU".
,,

“I look forward to working closely with (Polish Foreign Minister) Radosław Sikorski to implement the EU-Ukraine agenda".

Ukraine officially applied for EU membership in February 2022, and was granted candidate status in June. In December 2023, the European Council decided to open accession negotiations with Ukraine.

On January 1st Poland took over the six-month rotating presidency of the EU Council from Hungary.

Earlier, Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk said that during Warsaw's presidency, there could be "significant developments regarding war and peace in Ukraine," - Ukrainska Pravda recalled.

Belarus was mentioned six times in the program prepared for the presidency. Five times in connection with sanctions, while the sixth concerns the fight against the instrumentalization of migration by Belarus and Russia.
