It was reported by the Belarusian opposition, citing data from the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
The number of Belarusian emigrants in Poland has rapidly increased since 2020, prompted by the repressive measures of Alyaksandr Lukashenka's regime following the rigged presidential elections.
"This is a clear example of unnatural migration," Pavel Latushka, Deputy Chairman of the United Transitional Cabinet (the Belarusian government in exile), told the independent Belarusian website Pozirk, citing data received from the Ministry of Interior and Administration.
,,-A significant number of Belarusians currently in Poland were forced to leave Belarus either due to political persecution or the atmosphere of fear and terror created in the country by Lukashenka's regime. Legally, they are victims of the crime of deportation - Latushka emphasized.
By the end of November 2024, the number of Belarusian citizens living in Poland had increased to more than five times the figure from the end of 2019. Since 2021, over 240,000 Belarusians have applied for a residence permit in Poland, and 140,000 have successfully obtained one.
,,-The relevant data indirectly confirms that people are leaving Belarus against their will. The oppositionist explains that the Belarusians are Poland's second largest group of foreigners.
On Friday, Latushka announced that he had informed the District Prosecutor's Office in Warsaw regarding threats to the life and health of Belarusian political emigrants living in Poland and the European Union. Officials from the Lukashenka regime have made these threats.
