There is a suspect in an attempt to set fire to a facility in Gdansk.
Homeland Security officers have detained another person suspected of participating in an internationally organized criminal group and carrying out acts of diversion and sabotage in Poland. According to the court's decision, the Belarusian will spend the next three months in custody, MIA spokesman Jacek Dobrzynski wrote on social media.
A communiqué published on the website of the Internal Security Agency said that the Belarusian was detained in Warsaw and is suspected of attempting to commit arson against a facility in Gdansk.
,,This is another detention in the investigation into the activities of an organized criminal group, which - on behalf of foreign special services - carried out acts of sabotage, in particular arson, wrote the ABW press team.
In January and May of this year, the ABW arrested Polish, Ukrainian and Belarusian citizens responsible for arson attacks on facilities in Gdansk, Gdynia and Marki, who were preparing arson attacks in Wroclaw.
Among other things, the officers secured items that could be used to carry out further such sabotage. The Prosecutor's Office charged the detained Belarusian with participation in an organized criminal group of an international character and committing acts of diversion and sabotage or crimes of a terrorist nature on behalf of a foreign intelligence service. The alleged acts carry a penalty of up to life imprisonment.
The District Court for Wroclaw-Śródmieście - at the request of the prosecutor's office - applied a preventive measure in the form of temporary arrest for 3 months against the suspect.
The investigation is being conducted by the ABW Delegation in Wroclaw under the supervision of the Lower Silesia Branch of the Organized Crime and Corruption Department of the National Public Prosecutor's Office in Wroclaw. The case is under development.
