The relevant decree was signed Tuesday by Interior Ministry head Agne BilotaiteKestutis Kvietkus, a Lithuanian who fought in the Russian army against Ukraine, has been stripped of his Lithuanian citizenship. The Interior Ministry's communiqué stresses that Kvietkus violated a requirement of the Citizenship Law prohibiting Lithuanian citizens from serving in the armed forces of other countries without permission from the Lithuanian government. Kvietkus had no such permission.Supporters of Ukraine do not doubt that more Lithuanians are fighting on the Russian side. However, Lithuanian intelligence does not disclose such information. Political scientist Nerijus Maliukeviczius, who is quoted by the portal of public broadcaster LRT, underlines that those fighting on the Russian side pose a significant and direct challenge to the country's security.
